Why this date

The observance needs Krishna Amavasya to be running at the time of the puja. On 8 November 2026 in Delhi it is - which is what puts Lakshmi Puja on that day, even though the calendar names that day after Krishna Chaturdashi, the tithi running at sunrise.

Computed with the Swiss Ephemeris and Lahiri ayanamsa, from each city's own sunrise and sunset. Pradosh kaal is taken as the 2 hours 24 minutes after sunset; panchangs differ by a few minutes on sunset itself, so a boundary minute can differ.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my calendar show a different date for Lakshmi Puja?
Because a tithi is not a day. It begins and ends at a moment, and a festival falls on the day its tithi is present at the time the observance needs - for an evening puja, the evening. A printed calendar names each day after the tithi running at SUNRISE, and that is often the previous one. We check the tithi at the moment of the puja, which is the rule the panchangs use.
Why is the muhurat different in Mumbai and Delhi?
Sunset differs by about half an hour between them, and the rising sign follows the sky above your own city. A single time printed for all of India is wrong for almost everywhere in it.
Can I use a time outside the window?
The window is the traditionally preferred one, not a deadline. If your family keeps a different convention or your priest gives another time, follow that - these are computed windows, not rules.
